About

Hi, I'm Tanveer!

I am a dedicated MSc Public Health Science candidate at the University of Waterloo, with a Research Graduate Field in Aging and Health. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Honours Health Science (Medical Physiology Minor, Pre-Clinical Specialization, Co-op) and a Diploma in Gerontology, also from the University of Waterloo.

My research interests are multidisciplinary in nature and include a focus on the mental health of South Asian adolescents, maternal-child health, healthcare informatics and aging technology, and the interplay between healthy aging, long-term care, and healthcare policy. Using qualitative research methods, my thesis is proposed to be an intersectional analysis focusing on Racialized Immigrant Older Adults who identify as Punjabi, and their cultural perceptions of menopause and women's reproductive health experiences while accessing resources in the Canadian healthcare system.

I am passionate about improving the health and well-being of individuals of all ages in marginalized communities, and I am dedicated to breaking barriers by advocating for a healthier future.

I am the Research Coordinator for Punjabi Kids' Health, which is a part of the Our Kids' Health Network, within the Department of Pediatrics at St. Michael's Hospital. Our Kids' Health is a platform for BIPOC and equity-deserving communities to obtain culturally relevant, representative, and inclusive evidence-based health information to help them make the best decisions for themselves and their families. We use social media to deliver translated, adapted, and evidence-based health information to families across 10 cultural-linguistic communities.

In addition to my role at St. Michael's Hospital, I also serve as a Research Assistant at UbiLab, where contribute to projects focusing on the development of Standards for Technology for Healthy Aging. My commitment to advancing knowledge in my field is further demonstrated through my role as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, where I mentor and support undergraduate students in their academic pursuits.

Alongside serving as a Crisis Responder with Kids' Help Phone, I am also involved with the Graduate Student Association at the University of Waterloo as part of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee and the Social Committee.

With a strong academic background and hands-on experience in research and community health, I aim to make a significant impact in the realm of Public Health, striving to create a healthier and more equitable future for all.
